Senior High 2: Monday - Wednesday

After accidentally deleting this post the first time I wrote it, let us try to rewrite it. (Oy.)

Ahem.

Bear Lake welcomed our second group of high school students on Monday morning!

After moving all of the campers into cabins and getting them settled, the week was kicked off in the gym. We began our week with the beloved "rules skits" done by our lovely staff, and then proceeded to split everyone into four different teams. They were given no criteria for the team names, so the names ended up being very random...or in better terms, "creative!"

After the teams got to know each other a little bit, the four teams then competed in a few games to get the competitive flow going. Once the teams got to know each other a little bit, everyone headed to a picnic style lunch outside of the dining hall.

When lunch was over, the campers went back to their cabins to relax for a little bit. Following cabin time, the girls headed down to the beach to take their swim tests while the boys started up Monday's Bible study and then went to play GaGa. Snack Shack was next to recharge and reenergize, and then the boys and girls swapped rotations.

Monday's Bible study can be found in Luke 5:1-11 which discusses Jesus calling His first disciples to follow Him. This resulted in great conversation between campers and their cabin mates, on what it looks like in their personal lives to trust in where Christ is calling each of them.

Following rotations, the camp was open for free time, giving campers more time to mingle and interact and create community amongst one another.

When free time was over, everyone went in and settled around tables to enjoy supper together. After a supper that definitely hit the spot, it was time for a few games of crab soccer! For some reason, hitting a giant ball at one another always results in loads of fun and laughs! :)

Worship and a message in the chapel were next, as the day started to wind down. We had a wonderful time of worship followed by a video that challenged us to put our faith into action, and what that could look like. After the message, everyone split into their cabin groups for time to reflect on the message and to have conversations to process through what they had learned.

Everyone then came back together for a social campfire, where we were challenged to introduce ourselves to 15 people. It was a time for fellowship, community, and of course...snacks! It was a perfect ending to our marvelous Monday at camp. From there everyone headed to bed in preparation for a new day of fun.

We were greeted by morning rain on Tuesday, but that never stops campers from having fun! After huddling around on the porch, everyone headed inside for breakfast, and then to cabin clean-up. Tuesday's cabin clean-up theme was "Ancient Greece," and the winners were the lovely ladies of cabin 2A! They received the glorious flaming plunger/trophy and had the privilege of entering into lunch first.

Following cabin clean-up, it was time for cabin Bible study. Tuesday's Bible study can be found in Matthew 14:13-36 which describes Jesus feeding the 5,000 and Jesus walking on water. The cabins discussed these two miracles of Jesus and how they can apply what they learned from these miracles to their own lives.

When Bible studies were over, choice activities of the day began. Tuesday's choice activities included a very wet and muddy game of Ultimate Frisbee, crafts, volleyball, dodgeball and more!

It was definitely entertaining to watch the group of Ultimate Frisbee players slide around in the giant rain and mud puddles. It looked like a lot of fun!

After choice activities, it was time for lunch and then cabin time. When rest time was over, it was
time to get the day going again with rotations.

Two of the teams went on a canoeing and hiking trip while the other two teams went to the gym for recreation time. The teams will swap later in the week so everyone gets a chance to go hiking and canoeing! The teams that went on Tuesday enjoyed spending time together in beautiful scenery.

After rotations, everyone came back together to enjoy some free time around the camp. The volleyball tournaments also began during free time!

Once free time was over, everyone headed into the Dining Hall to enjoy "Taco Tuesday" for supper.
After a great meal, it was time for a game of GoldRush outside, and from there we headed to the chapel for worship and a message given by Brandon Holler.

From there, cabins were then given a chance to come together and discuss what they had learned in chapel.

Our terrific Tuesday was ended with a classic game of Counselor Hunt before everyone headed to bed to get much needed rest before a new day.

Wednesday was kicked off with breakfast and cabin clean-up. Today's cabin clean-up theme was "Hipster" and the boys of cabin 5B won the honor of the flaming plunger. One member of cabin 5B graciously gave an acceptance speech, and generously shared the honor with cabin 5A as well, stating that the two would unite in the cabin clean-up endeavor. :)

When cabin clean-up ended, it was time again for cabin Bible study which was found in Matthew 26:57-75. This passage describes what takes place after Jesus is arrested, and describes what took place when the High Priest questioned Him.

After Bible studies, choice activities started up. Today's choice activities were crafts, KanJam, flag football, soccer, disc golf, and more!

Lunch was next, followed by cabin time and then rotations.

Due to rain, the next canoeing/hiking trip was postponed for tomorrow. Instead, everyone had the option to go to the chapel for a movie, time in the game room, or games in the gym. Everyone made the most of the changed plans and enjoyed one another's company!

Once rotations were over, free time was opened up. Later tonight we have the famous Hoedown, and everyone is obviously super excited to show off their flannels and square-dancing skills!

We have had an amazing first half of the week, and we can't wait to learn more, grow more, and have even more fun together. Here's to another great week of camp at Bear Lake!
